This week, Larry Ferlazzo’s Website of the Day… provides us with a chart that compares and contrasts parent involvement and parent engagement that was included in his book Building Parent Engagement In Schools. He discusses the beginning processes, the role of both the parent and the school staff, and finally the purpose of involvement/engagement. I believe both are necessary in a successful classroom because it supports students by strengthening and assisting school programs, as well as developing relationships and strengthening families. They can add more to the classroom by providing a different viewpoint or type of knowledge. It can also help the teacher by diluting responsibilities and lessening her load. It can also give parents a better feel of what their child is learning and being exposed to, which can in turn make it easier for parents to help their children with assignments and homework.
